An open conference with the doctor that allows pet parents to ask the questions they have about how to be confident and in making a quality of life decision, how to evaluate your pets quality of life, how to know best when it is time, what to expect based on the pet parents goals and choices discussed, and a detail discussion about options of medications, delivery routes, sedation, anxiety and pain reduction, burial, cremation, and any other questions pet parents may have that would help them. Knowing when the time may be right for euthanasia is very personal. Your pet may go through slower age changes as they approach the natural end of their life or experience faster physical and mental changes. What’s important is to understand what is normal and abnormal for your own pet as each is special and unique. Determining the quality of life of your pet is an individualized process and is best determined by you and your family with help from Dr. Kaiser. There are Quality of Life worksheets that your veterinarian may be able to provide to you at your request. However, no worksheet is completely accurate and perfectly suited to every pet. Dr. Kaiser can talk with you about the changes you see in your pet and help you determine if euthanasia is the best choice as well as when and where. Please reach out and we will be here to help you in every manner to ensure you and your pet have the right decisions and choices presented and ultimately decided upon.
