Why does my pet need an ultrasound?
Ultrasounds are important to have done no matter the age of your pet, but especially for senior and sick pets. Ultrasounds help catch any hidden/underlying issues, help with early detection in diseases such as cancer, and they also help prevent worsening of preexisting conditions.
Ultrasounds provide a non invasive way to look inside the body. providing more detailed info than you can get from radiographs or examination. It is important to remember ultrasounds are not harmful, they are not painful and are usually completed in under 30 minutes. There is also no recovery time. Once it's done, it's done!
Your pet will often need an ultrasound if they are sick, losing weight, having trouble going to the bathroom, vomiting, or pretty much any other symptom they may be having. For conditions your pet already has, it's a way to monitor improvement or progression of a disease, condition or disorder.
Ultrasounds are used even in seemingly perfect, healthy animals. It is advantageous to complete full and through ultrasounds on healthy pets to identify conditions in their earliest stages. Early identification can better outcomes and can prolong the health and life of your pet!
